I don’t want dreadlocks, lemme tell you why.
Now.. it’s not something I’m looking down on. Personally. I’ve never seen myself being as versatile with styles, WITH locs than without. As I scroll through IG, of course you see multiple styles of locs ( if you follow or search such things like that) and trust, they can get very intricate just as if they’re braiding free hair. I just don’t see that as part of my journey this era. My hair gets close to matting from having my twists in for 2-3 weeks and no head coverage when I sleep, and it almost sends me in a full blown panic because I‘m already imaging the impending breakage. and that’s all your hair is doing in that style, locking up. Now it IS reversible to a certain degree; all you’re doing is just severely, but carefully detangling your hair. Usually beeswax is used to protect the strands and give them a little slip without heavily moisturizing your strands because that’s what will make them more prone to breaking in the detangling process. You’d be using a fine tooth comb versus a detangling brush because… duhh it wouldn’t work. But all in all, that’s how you revert the style and to be honest: I don’t think id have the extra energy in me to do that myself- which is why most people just cut their locs off ( with the possibility of reattachment later) than dealing with the arthritis of undoing your hair to your scalp, possibly 20-40 times.
Now admiringly there are some people that give me loc envy, and I cant lie. I be ready to go grab those crochet locs and hit the counter, but I still love the maneuverability I have with my strands. I like being able to have my twists, and be able to go get a blowout or say a silk press. I wanted to try a whole handful more styles to accommodate all the times I wished I was at this length, enough to actually enjoy the styles and learn more about the hair on my head. and lets be real, there’s no rush to lock up your hair at any certain length, because it works 🤷🏾♂️
