Just Act Natural
I’m feeling mildly inspirational, and just wanted to spread some hope to those who might’ve started their haircare journey either now or a while back, but I’m kind of just preaching on patience 🙏🏾
I know, boring right?
but it’s been approximately 4 years into my journey (for relevance) and I just want to say while it does “take time”, said time is of course going to pass anyways. So i’d just encourage spending that time learning (about your scalp tbh… its right there…) how your texture at least during the phase when it takes you all of 15 minutes to fully style your hair. Hair grows regardless, even after death (not so fun fact).
So if I could do my own spill on patience without sounding too cliché; I do agree that you’ll achieve that goal length in no time. Maybe you spent your first year of hair care soaking up your favorite YouTubers regimens to catch a template for yourself. Maybe you start liking certain style and you realize that its taken a little longer to finish this style than it did last month. so on and so forth, that the hairstyling that you were so giddy about has just became a chore and you go a couple days without thinking about touching you hair. I believe that THAT is the moment that you focus on the health of your hair rather than fantasizing over the length you admire.
They say ‘fake it ‘til you make it’ but if you ask my opinion I think the term “Just act natural” works more efficiently to get the point across. Faking it til you make it would mean going out and buying the 200ºº worth of products that an expert naturalista would need for their optimized care regimen, versus benefiting your hair with a unique foundation of tools and products you’d utilize. I used to sit and watch these YouTube video that would preach on patience and whatnot to those that are just joining the natural haircare community and I was one of them. And it wasn’t until maybe last year where I needed to section my hair in halves, I had to take a step back and tell myself “Wow, look at how much hair you have to deal with.”
Buuuuut to keep it on 💯 the crew and I are dropping a visor this summer so you and your styles can just…. act natural.
