Rough Edges

I’ve been wearing top buns for the past couple of months because how easy the swoop to gather the twists are. My ends are still uneven and all that but they’re pasted a certain point that’s still feasible to do buns in each direction.
milestone achieved!

But I’ve been getting away with how neat it looks by a ‘few hairs’.
manicuring you’re edges does wonders for how pristine a 2 week style looks… from a distance.
Juggling personal, business and hair care by themselves a lot is a fight for time right now, and the more I can get off Scott free running and gunning, the better.

Lemme tell you how you can make your style feel like it’s on day 2 while you’re a week and a half in. 3 if you’re lazy like me. So to kick that, I brought a lil info on edge care. Tried and true by moî

  1. Certain oils such as castor oils.

exceptionally thicc so the hair strands are sure to get some coverage. There are many brands with different properties so I have a quick pic for reference.

  2. Minute-retwisting

JUST the perimeter of my crown -and maybe one more inch deeper if I have the fortitude- spiffys up your style especially after oils and products are added. You’re not spending 3 hours on your hair but it will be fresh like you did. (The base of your head can wait for a later date).

  3. Trimming and Splicing

If you were to ever worry about your edge line and how neat it looks, now would be your greatest shot. Angle that mirror, bust out the clippers & facial dermaplane blades and form that shape or line that frames your face nicely. After retwisting, your hair that was manipulated for the style can be pinned up or safely tucked out of the way; making for nipping the unwanted hairs a ton easier.

Sideburns are edges too. And they truly go unnoticed in self care moments. So I include it in facial care rather than hair care as a sort of balancing act. Remember, we’re being detailed in our self care. We deserve it. Lately I purchased a satin edge scarf…. purple for royalty that I could use while I sleep to protect my edges but all in all. I still sleep wild so its probably has better usage for me when i’m conscious, or maybe when i’m crafting a certain style.

Spending time on prepping and styling your actual hair and then being detailed on your edges takes more effort, especially when your sideburns will fray by morning, satin case or not.
But by saving it for your facial care which can occur in the morning. You save yourself effort for a more perfected upkeep.
