ADHD is an unorthodox severe self-regulation impairment/disorder that many deal with, but few fully comprehend.

I AM… The Hyperactive Leo

It’s been a long rollercoaster, and the ride is far from finished.

The realization began when I am reading, a book or anything honestly, I will have to read the page but once I get to the bottom of the page I realize that my brain was thinking about something else and I really didn't read so I attempt reading again. I read a few sentences and about midway the same thing occurs. Im thinking about “do all bugs die in the winter; then how are they here every summer” and I have to re-concentrate… on purpose. And now, I’ve concentrated so hard on reading that I haven’t… truly… read anything. I just made sure my eyes looked at the printed word and said the word in my head, but nothing has been absorbed, but MAYBE half of what was in the text. I learned that I have….. comprehension and processing issues.

it was during this stage of my life where I realized that my brain is very active and complex, but in very unusual way. Receiving my diagnosis at a young age; I have no reason to unjustly disbelieve what my family and friends are experiencing. I have ADHD.

ADHD is real.

for people diagnosed with ADHD/ADD it consumes their life, mentally and psychosocially, and because many cannot outgrow the disorder after puberty, they carry it into adulthood. Some venture through childhood and don’t receive and understand their diagnosis UNTIL adulthood. It is a true mental disorder and as debilitating as it can be for some, ADHD’ers shouldn’t also suffer from the stigma that follows suit from these types of mental impairments; Dilemmas that ADHD’ers encounter shouldn’t be swept under a rug with the problems they face according to neurotypicals (people who think in a normal processing pattern) being able to slightly relate to few symptoms… momentarily.

imagine not being able to remember thing essential things you need to keep life flowing, and someone comes and agrees by mentioning that they ‘forget their keys on the dresser’ a couple of times.

Emotional Pillars of ADHD

Although there are more emotions tied to the human psyche there are three main emotions that most ADHD’ers pivot, and bounce off of. Those being Excitement-Anxiety-Frustration. Majority of the ways and ADHD’er are stimulated is rooted in one of the three.

  • This is where things like your outburst come from, the sporadic pacing, bubbly personas, and those adrenaline pumps that gases the thrill that the ADHD’er is getting to either get a task done or be productive in any sort of fashion. This is the goal, and for most, this is the happy place. When conditions are mostly met the ADHD’er is usually in an excited state.

  • This is the state of unknown. For ADHD’ers it’s more than a state of uneasiness; with the mental impairment of ADHD there’s an added facet of confusion that requires a little (or a lot) of work to be redirected or guided, because not only do you not know what you’re feeling, you cannot trace why you feel what you feel, or communicate in a way best received by others outside of your mental spectrum.

  • The pillar of anger and frustration is persistent and in some way necessary. ADHD’ers utilize that anger for the understanding that the emotion releases hormones similar to adrenaline to induce productivity. Frustration also comes from the causation of mood swings and emotional irregularity from forces external and internal. This can be the root of flash irritability or emotional shutdowns.

Did you know ADHD’ers are especially great in a crisis?

Deadlines induce a serious adrenaline rush for ADHD’ers when it encroaches, named the ‘Masters of Disaster’, when everything is scatted and unorganized, the processing is slightly more manageable to handle, Its a slight scenario that the ADHD’er benefits in because of how their brain can bounce, gauge and process, only for things to fly back apart once the routine sets back in. Living crisis to crisis for peak self efficiency.

In fact, some ADHD’ers use anger to spark productivity, which is and odd price to pay which is why they are told to have certain personality disorders.

  • ADHD isn't brand new.

a British pediatrician in 1902 descried ADHD as an abnormal defect in moral control in children & for about 20 years doctors have been trying to find connections between ADHD and PBD (Postencephalic Behavior Disorder) which is a symptom of brain inflammation caused by a certain virus. This was proved to be false but the experts understood the those individuals had PBD and not ADHD.

  • It's all about Brain Chemistry

A doctor by the name of Charles Bradley utilized benzedrine, attempting to treat headaches in children, could notice a change in behavior as well, but for the better. It enhanced their performance s and ability to focus. This sparked confusion because why would stimulant be able to help calm children down?

  • ADD >>> ADHD

In 1968 the American psychiatric Association's Diagnostic and Statistical manual of Mental Disorders lists ADHD under the name “Hyperkinetic reaction of childhood” after belief that it dissipates after adolecense. After more understanding of the disorder, it was named ADD in the 1980’s. Further revision updates the standard name to ADHD in 1987.

  • ADHD Types

in 1994 ADHD was listed in three distinct versions, or types of ADHD:

    The Inattentive Type,

    Hyperactive/Impulsive Type,

    The Combined Type
